Job Description for Electrical Reliability Engineer
The overall objective of the Electrical Reliability Engineer is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of production facilities at the lowest life cycle cost. The Electrical Reliability Engineer will be responsible for the identification, development, and implementation of preventive/predictive programs and corrective maintenance solutions for Electrical systems and equipment. This person will have the ability to work independently and make technical decisions based on full awareness of viability, risk, cost and other benefits.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Own and lead the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process for major failures to assure prevention of re-occurrence.
- Analyze data and information from multiple sources to identify, recommend and justify life-cycle cost and reliability improvement activities.
- Review the Electrical system Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program..
- Identify and resolve long-term Electrical asset concerns (reliability threats).
- Review and update Electrical related Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Works with project engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations (MOC). The reliability engineer is responsible for adhering to the life cycle asset management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.
- Manage risk to the achievement of an organization’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production.
- Provides technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel.
- Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign and make/buy decisions.
- Develop and execute Electrical reliability improvement plan.
- Assist in developing new and current Electrical specialists in the region.
- Responsible for Refinery coordination of the Electrical systems of all large scale engineering projects. Reviews design of proposed facilities (with respect to Electrical systems) ensuring compliance with engineering standards while optimizing maintainability and reliability.
- Identifies key Electrical systems reliability indicators, which are monitored, analyzed and subsequently acted upon in order to increase the on stream efficiency of all Refinery Electrical systems.
- Improve Electrical System reliability and availability through the implementation of Reliability Engineering principles, techniques and tools, such as Risk Based Maintenance (RBM) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience in participating in Root Cause Failure analyses.
- In-depth knowledge of Electrical Systems.
- Detailed understanding of Electrical Safety Act.
- Able to lead reliability improvement processes and programs.
- Demonstrated computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office, Excel, and planning software tools such as computerized maintenance management systems.
- Good communications skills both written and verbal are required.
